Buhari Lock Out Umana, Others In APC Meeting

Global Pilot- The National leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Muhammadu Buhari recently chased out the Akwa Ibom State APC chieftains led by Mr Umana Umana at the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party.
The former governorship candidate who had gone as the party leader in the State with some of his loyalists were shocked when they were told that none of them was invited or recognized for the APC stakeholders meeting.
Global Pilot reliably got informed that the former Akwa Ibom State Secretary to the Government, has been blacklisted by President Buhari for the poor run of the APC in Akwa Ibom State, as well as the high corruption scandals hovering around his name.
Umana, who had hoped to use the opportunity to requests for federal appointments for him and his followers, was taken aback, when despite presenting his identity to the security details at party leadership meeting he was refused the right of entry.
While APC elders from other parts of the country were easily admitted into the meeting venue, Mr Umana was left stranded at the gate, making frantic calls to see how he could be granted access to the location.
However it finally dawned on him that  all is lost when President Buhari’s convoy zoomed into the venue of the meeting, a protocol indication that no one else can be allowed inside.
Umana, according to an inside source who confided in Global Pilot, was desperately in search of a leeway to get the ear of the President in order to plead for any available board for which he can use and provide succor to the APC followers in Akwa Ibom.
Some of  journalists who were also affected include by this censorship waited helplessly at the gate until the meeting ended without any change in the directive.
The affected journalists included Sun, Telegraph, Tribune, Blueprint, The Union, Peoples Daily, Nigerian Pilot, Daily Times, National Mirror, Daily Independent, Liberty Radio, Vision FM, Authority Newspapers, among others barred from covering APC NEC meeting at the party national Secretariat, Abuja.
The accredited journalists who have been covering the party even before the APC merger became successful, were however, denied opportunity from covering the all-important meeting.
Though the party has been without spokesperson but another aide who serves as an Assistant director of Media to the chairman were said to not want to deal with some of the media houses any longer.
When the barred journalists approached the Special Assistant to the former APC National Publicity Secretary Lai Mohammed, Mr. Lanre, he boldly revealed that the party is not going to allow unfriendly journalists access to the venue of the NEC meeting.
He also told the newsmen that the order was given from the presidency.
On his own, APC Assistant Director, Publicity, Mr. Odegbe Odewingie, told the affected journalists that some media houses have been identified as working against the party’s interest.
He said the instruction is coming from the Presidency, that only selected media would be allowed access to the meeting.
Reasons giving for gagging the media was because the party National Chairman has been complaining of getting bad press and as such.
