  Market Women Laud Governor’s Effort On EmpowermentAkwa Ibom Market Women Front-Line Association has lauded Governor Emmanuel for his untiring effort towards improving the socio-economic well-being of women in the State.

Speaking during a solidarity visit to the Finance Commissioner, Mr. Akan Okon, the Acting Chairman of the Association, Mrs. Magdalene Udom who led the market women drawn from the 31 Local Government chapters in the State, said their visit was to convey their message of gratitude to the State Governor for
keeping his campaign promise to better their lot.

She said for the Market Women to be among the first set of beneficiaries, as well as allotting 60 per cent of the interest-free Micro Small Medium Enterprises loan to them, goes further to show Governor Udom’s passion to bring transformation and empowerment to their doorsteps.

The Acting Chairman pledged their resolve to stand by the State Governor all the way, even as they also applauded his efforts to bring about sustainable development in the State.

Responding, the Commissioner, Mr. Akan Okon, who appreciated the Market Women for their show of love and solidarity which he described as morale booster, adding that Governor Udom Emmanuel was determined to boost the commercial activities that would ultimately create wealth and improve the living standard of the people especially the women of Akwa Ibom State.

Acknowledging their sense of organization despite their large number, Mr. Akan Okon noted their unwavering support and loyalty which is usually demonstrated through their prominent turn-out in government functions, promising to relay their goodwill message to the State Governor.

He said the giant strides recorded in the last four months of Udom Emmanuel’s administration was a credible demonstration of what is to come in the next eight years, urging them to continue to pray for progress and development that would bring GREATNESS which Udom Emmanuel stands for.

On the MSME development fund, the Finance boss assured to deploy appropriate mechanisms for disbursement of which beneficiaries are to be nominated by leaders of each local government chapter of the Market Women Association, and urged them to use the funds wisely to develop their trades.

Commissioner Okon also advised the leaders of the Market Women to build the trust and confidence of the led by being truthful and transparent in their dealings as these are panacea for peace, unity and progress, a legacy he noted could be bequeathed to their generations.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Eme-Ete Imuk charged the Women to imbibe the “Dakkada” spirit by being resourceful and innovative in order to support their families while also canvassing the revival of family values to curb societal ills.
